In 1975, Bruce Springsteen performed in Milwaukee for the first time at the Uptown Theater. Midway through the show the theater was evacuated because of a bomb scare. Springsteen and the E Street Band retired to the Pfister Hotel bar and got drunk as police searched the Uptown.
MAN AT THE TOP is a buddy comedy about the Milwaukee Brucesters, three Springsteen die-hards who happen to be at the bar when their hero arrives. With all the commotion, they miss their chance for their meet-and-greet. They make a pledge that night that one day they would meet Springsteen - no matter the costs.
MAN AT THE TOP captures our characters dramatic tales during THREE eras in their life. Our opportunity to immerse the audience in the culture, the outfits, and the hairstyles in the iconic 60's, 70's and 90's.
Planned to be shot all in the Midwest using local crew and practical locations with the goal of keeping the cost down and targeting a higher value. Recreating stages that have since been closed down to build out the memory of places we have dreamed we would see again.
“A Palace on a Lawn of Cloud” by Joe Grushecky
The Leader of the group.
A traumatic death reshapes his life.
He is a romantic searching for purpose.
Brawler, defender, and selfless.
He didn’t have so much of a chip on his shoulder as he had a chip on his tooth. (hence the nickname)
Ladies man with the
sense of style to match.
His friends give him the only real chance to cut loose from his strict family structure.
Works more for his family than with his family. A man that would find more comfort by building the planter box then smelling the roses. He never learned how to share the love in his heart.
With his polished good looks, huckster charm, and family fortune he is a devil without care. He has coasted through life with little regard for anyone but himself.
The kid sister all grown up to be
the hometown beauty. Bad luck with love causes her to always keep searching the one thing she lost. A complete family.
Best Rock Show He Ever Saw!
I believe that in every living thing there is a favorite song tied tightly to their heart. Music is motivation, emotion, and memory all wrapped into one. Larry Shulruff's script has brought me back to those days traveling through the life and times of the characters. That's what I want the audience to experience.
